Sant'Anna Institute (Sorrento, Italy) and College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, United States) are pleased to present the first international Conference "Women of the Mediterranean" (June 12-13, 2015). Conference Location: Sant'Anna Institute, Sorrento Conference Director: Prof. Giovanni Spani (College of the Holy Cross) Conference Coordinator: Prof. Marco Marino (Sant'Anna Institute) Keynote Speaker: Prof. Barbara Zecchi (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) The object of this Conference is the analysis of the role and conditions of women in the Mediterranean area, considered within its globality, according to a diachronic and synchronic perspective in a global vision of the reality in which Mediterranean women live and operate. Among the several connotative aspects of the feminine dimension as it is lived and perceived in the countries on the shores of the Mediterranean, this Conference intends to explore, first of all, the cultural models that have an effect on the socio-economic contexts of this geographic area and to attempt to awaken the presence of women inside these contexts both in terms of identity construction and role they usually play. Furthermore, the Conference will focus on the historic evolution of feminine conditions and on its literary, theatrical, and cinematographic representation without neglecting the juridical dimension and the role of women in the socio-political-economical setting of our global era.The Organizing Committee will be overseeing the publication of an ad hoc volume with the goal of including submissions determined to be, at the incontestable discretion of the Committee, the most significant in terms of academic scholarship. From a comparative and inter-Mediterranean perspective, submissions in Italian, English and Spanish are welcome, related to the following disciplines: - Gender Studies - Literature - History - Philosophy - Sociology and Anthropology - Political Science - Religious Studies - Migratory Studies - Cinema - Human Rights - Economy The Conference themes can include: - Mythical women throughout history - Feminine identity: revision of patriarchy, LGTB, Subject vs. Object - Mothers/daughters - Wonderwoman vs. Superman: superheroines in pop culture - Women and war - Autobiographies and auto-representations - Women behind the film camera - Women and pop culture - Women and politics - Tearing down barriers: women travellers - Women and dictatorship - Women and globalization - Women and consumer society - Women of the Middle Ages Please send your proposal for the conference (2 paragraph maximum) in Italian, English or Spanish, along with your complete academic profile, by April 15th 2015, to the Organizing Committee at womenofthemediterranean@gmail.com Registration Fee: ◦ Euros 130 (for professors and scholars) ◦ Euros 50 (for graduate students) 2. Revista: Ámbitos Feministas, Volumen monográfico: “Feminismo y Gynocine” (Volumen V), Fall 2015 La editora y el comité editorial invitado de Ámbitos Feministas abre la convocatoria para la preselección de artículos publicables en el volumen 5 Monográfico del otoño 2015. El tema elegido para el mismo es la producción cinematográfica hispánica de las Américas y del ámbito ibérico de autoría femenina y el rol que sus respectivas directoras, productoras y guionistas juegan en cuestiones que repercuten sobre la imagen y la representación cultural de las mujeres a nivel político y simbólico. Por ello, se hace una llamada a estudios críticos que además de analizar las obras en sí mismas, reflexionen también acerca de las actitudes que sus autoras toman frente al feminismo como posición política. Y se invita a que aborden, cada uno de forma específica, una amplia variedad de temas dentro del abanico de realidades que las distintas generaciones han venido retratando. La discriminación de género o por orientación sexual de las mujeres, la violencia machista, la paridad en la maternidad o la inmigración son algunos ejemplos de los que, sin caer en crítica intencionalista, consideramos relevante observar el contraste entre el análisis de su obra y la postura de la(s) autora(s) en cuestión. Se anticipa que el volumen monográfico ofrezca una visión panorámica que contribuya a situar y discutir tanto obras canónicas como contemporáneas dentro del espectro de la teoría fílmica feminista, la teoría de género y el feminismo como posición política en todas sus facetas. Enviar originales y carta de presentación/bio a: Irene Melé Ballesteros <monograficovambitosfeministas@gmail.com>. Los ensayos pueden estar escritos en español, inglés o portugués. Su longitud debe oscilar entre 17- 25 páginas a doble espacio (Times New Roman tamaño 12 y márgenes de 1”). Las notas no deberán ser automáticas e irán situadas al final del documento como parte del texto. La forma de incorporar las notas en el texto será en Superscript. La bibliografía debe ir al final del artículo y no dentro del texto o en las notas. Para todas las demás normas de estilo, se seguirá lo especificado en última versión de las normas de publicación del MLA. Todos los envíos deben incluir un documento independiente donde figurarán los datos del autor/a (o autores/ as), la institución a la que pertenece(n) y, en su caso, la dirección de correo electrónico. Estos datos deberán escribirse en una hoja aparte y no en el documento del ensayo para que la labor de los evaluadores pueda realizarse de forma anónima. Además se incluirá una breve biografía del autor/a escrita en tercera persona donde se destaquen sus últimas publicaciones. Dicha biografía no debe sobrepasar las 8-10 líneas a doble espacio (Times New Roman tamaño 12). Para que las propuestas puedan ser consideradas para este número monográfico, se debe ser miembro de Feministas Unidas, Inc. (http://feministas-unidas.org). 4. The Department of Modern Languages at Kansas State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish, term position, for the 2015-2016 academic year. Completed PhD by August 2015 preferred, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish required. Generalist with ability to teach survey courses in Spanish/Transatlantic literature. Undergraduate teaching experience is an asset. Candidate will teach 3 courses per semester in language and literature. Successful candidate will value diversity in all its dimensions, and consider different cultural perspectives in solving problems in this area.
